The Youth Art Council of America and is the Art Club at Benton High School.  You do not have to be enrolled in Art to join; you only need to be interested in the arts.  Students earn club points by participating in art-related activities and fundraisers with the ultimate goal of being able to go to YACA Convention in the spring.  Convention is a three day fun and activity-filled gathering of YACA chapters from all over the state. Students sign up at the bulletin board outside the Art Room to join and there is no membership charge.

About Yaca!

YACA is Benton High School's Art Club.YACA is an anacronym for the Youth Art Council of America which is a state organization composed of middle and high school students and their sponsors from all over Louisiana.

YACA club is open to all students who enjoy using their art skills to make Benton High School a better School.  This club also provides artistic opportunities for those students who cannot fit art into their school schedule.  You DO NOT have to be currently enrolled in an art class to be a member of YACA.

Some of the activities in which the YACA Club is involved include making posters, signs, decorations, backdrops and murals for various sports, activities and organizations at our school.  During homecoming week and playoff games we paint the tiger eye on the football field.  Students are selected in Oct. to attend our annual YACA Leadership meeting in Forest Hill, La.  This is a chance for students to mingle and get an idea of what Convention will be all about.  Art activities and games are planned for the students and the teachers get the opportunity to meet and network to share successful lesson plans as well as go over the binder of information that the hosting region for Art Convention has prepared.  Art Convention is a three-day, 2-night fun and activity filled gathering of YACA chapters from all over Louisiana.  There are games, activities, chapter demonstrations, art show competition, banquet, performance-based contest, a dance, and much more!  The 2010 Convention is the 38th annual meeting and is hosted by Region 1 which consists of North Louisiana chapters down to Natchitoches. This year's convention will be held the weekend of March 4-6 at the Clarion Hotel in Shreveport.  This year's convention theme is "TEAM YACA", a sport's theme.

Club meetings generally held the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month but pay attention to announcements and School Loop notifications for announcements and meeting reminders. Meetings will be held in the art room either at 7:15 or 2:40 for your convenience.  If you can't make either meeting, stop by my room to pick up an agenda and sign in so you can receive club points for staying informed.

YACA Club Points

Club points are awarded for art-related tasks that you help teachers with or anything you do with me that is related to art outside regular class time (attending club meetings, murals, decorations, bulletin boards, goodies for teacher boxes, fundraisers, art contests, etc.  In order to receive club points, you must fill out and turn in a point sheet that can be gotten from my room or printed from the resource folder on this website.  The last 2 items on the form are to be rated and signed by the teacher for whom you did the work.  Those 10 - 15 students who earn the top amount of points and are in good standing with their grades and behavior will be invited to attend the annual convention in the spring.  The fundraisers we do help to pay for most of each student's convention costs, but each student is usually asked to pay about $55 to help pay for approximately 1/3 the cost to attend convention.
