The Alliance for Education has chosen four Bossier Parish schools to receive the Path to Excellence designation, based on school performance scores and significant progress shown during the 2014-15 academic year.
In addition to being designated Path to Excellence schools and receiving banners to display, the Alliance for Education, in partnership with Willis Knighton Health System, also gave $750 to Benton High, Benton Middle, Central Park Elementary and Meadowview Elementary during an academic pep rally and awards assembly held Wednesday, February 24.
Benton High and Meadowview were named Top Gains Schools by the Louisiana Department of Education, Central Park went up 4.7 points on the 2015 assessment and Benton Middle posted a gain of 3.4 points compared to 2014. Benton High, Central Park and Meadowview also increased a letter grade.
“We are extremely honored the Alliance for Education has chosen to recognize these four schools for the remarkable results achieved and growth shown by students and teachers over the course of a year,” said Bossier Schools Superintendent D.C. Machen, Jr. “Considering 2014-15 was the first year 3rd-8th graders took the PARCC assessment that raised the bar for proficiency in English Language Arts and math makes their accomplishments even more impressive.”
The focus of the Alliance for Education, founded 12 years ago by Dr. Phillip Rozeman, is to connect the community in school improvement efforts and work to improve public school systems throughout Northwest Louisiana.
“The object of Louisiana’s school accountability system is to provide a basis to assess schools based on the achievement of students,” said Dr. Rozeman. “The Path to Excellence program recognizes schools in our community that have shown the greatest improvement from the previous year.”
“It is our hope that these neighborhoods served by these excellent schools will take pride in their schools,” said Taylor McDonald, Board Chair of the Alliance for Education. “The teachers have worked hard and have been successful in engaging students in learning.”
